From the recording The Running Kind

Thanks for stopping by!
I could say there was some deep self-awareness that led to this song, but in fact I just wanted to write a song with the word "blacktop" in it. After all, it is a cool word! It was tough getting started, but then suddenly inspiration found me, and I couldn't get to my guitar fast enough. This song was featured on the daytime drama All My Children.

Lyrics

THE RUNNING KIND
Always searching up aheadGrasping at dreams flashing through my headForever restless, always wanting moreWondering what waits outside my door But once I hit that blacktopYou know that I just can’t stopI’m the running kindIf I’m running from or running toMan, if I only knewThe peace I long to findI’m the running kind Years of thought and therapyCan’t erase this trait in meYou say “try,” but it’s who I amDo you really give a damn? Cause once I hit that blacktopYou know that I just can’t stopI’m the running kindIf I’m running from or running toMan, if you only knewThe peace I long to findI’m the running kind You spin my wheels, you hold me downBut that’s all changing now... Cause there’s someone out there for meWho’ll be content just to run beside of meBut no one here will understandWhen I leave here and your ring’s not on my hand But once I hit that blacktopYou know that I just can’t stopI’m the running kindIf I’m running from or running toBaby, you never knewThe peace I longed to findI’m the running kind
